The University of Media, Arts and Communication’s Institute of Film and Television (UniMAC-IFT) has received state-of-the-art studio equipment from the Elba Hope Foundation to strengthen the training of young filmmakers and contribute to the growth of Ghana’s creative economy.
The donation, presented on behalf of the Foundation by Chief Operating Officer of Akuna Group Ghana, Mariam Buahim, forms part of its commitment to enhancing education across Africa while equipping students with practical skills aligned with global industry standards.
Receiving the equipment at the Institute’s Cantonments campus, Rector of UniMAC-IFT, Prof Samuel Yirenkyi, expressed gratitude for the Foundation’s support and urged other stakeholders to invest in nurturing creative talent on the continent. He stressed that strengthening film education is critical to positioning Ghana as a hub for creative innovation and cultural leadership.
Established in 1978 as the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI), UniMAC-IFT has long served as Ghana’s premier institution for film and television production training. The Institute continues to pursue its ambition of becoming a world-class centre of excellence, with support from government and international partners.
The event was attended by senior officials of UniMAC, including Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Winston Abroampa, Rectors of constituent institutes, Directors, Deans, Heads of Department, faculty and staff.
The Elba Hope Foundation, founded by Idris and Sabrina Elba, focuses on expanding educational and economic opportunities for young people in Africa, with a strong emphasis on creative industries as a catalyst for economic development and social transformation.
