The Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Mrs. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has visited Kingsway in Accra to assess damage from a fire that tore through the Dignity DTRT warehouse late Thursday.
She told reporters after the inspection that she had been briefed by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and praised the efforts of the fire Department.
“I want to commend the Fire Service for acting timelessly to save other properties. I still see pockets of fire and can say the environment is not very safe, but the Service has assured me the situation will be resolved by the end of today,” Mrs. Ofosu-Adjare said.
The Minister said although the blaze destroyed property worth millions of cedis, it was a relief no lives were lost. “The best thing is no life was lost. That is something we must all be thankful for,” she said.
She noted that investigations into the cause were under way. “We are waiting for the reports from the Fire Service before we act on them. It’s too early to disclose further information,” she added.
According to her, the location’s accessibility helped fire crews stop the flames from spreading. “It was easy for the fire tenders to get here, and that helped contain the situation,” she said.
Mrs. Ofosu-Adjare also expressed sympathy to Dignity DTRT’s management and staff. “I am really sorry about the loss. I have already met with the owner of the property, and for now, we prefer to wait for the Fire Service’s official report before making any decisions,” she added.
