Government has reiterated its commitment to driving agricultural transformation as a catalyst for economic growth, with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) highlighting strategic initiatives under its flagship Feed Ghana Programme.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Food and Agriculture at the opening of the 4th edition of Agritech West Africa in Accra, Deputy Director in charge of Crops Services, Harry Bleppony, stressed that the country is at a critical moment where investments in agriculture are vital to ensuring food security, expanding exports, and accelerating industrialisation.
“There is no better time than this to organise an agricultural exhibition. Government is committed to exploring the full potential of agriculture for the economic transformation of Ghana through flagship programmes such as the Feed Ghana initiative,” Mr. Bleppony said.
He explained that the Feed Ghana Programme aims to guarantee national food security, promote value addition, increase raw material supply to agro-processing industries, and expand agricultural exports.
To achieve these objectives, he said government will continue working closely with the private sector to mobilise investments along agricultural value chains.
Highlighting two key interventions under the programme, Mr. Bleppony pointed to the establishment of Farmer Service Centres in key agricultural districts and the creation of Agro-Production Enclaves.
The Farmer Service Centres, he noted, will function as one-stop shops providing farmers access to mechanisation services, improved seeds, fertilisers, agrochemicals, extension services and market access.
Similarly, the Agro-Production Enclaves are envisioned as large tracts of land developed into commercial hubs equipped with irrigation systems, roads, warehouses and processing facilities to attract investors and consolidate production.
“Implementing just these two sub-programmes has the potential to attract significant investment across the agriculture sector,” he added, urging companies present at the exhibition to seize emerging opportunities in Ghana’s agriculture space.
The two-day exhibition, which runs from September 19–20, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre, is being held under the auspices of MoFA and the Ministry of Trade and Industry. Organised by Synergice Events India, the event is supported by major industry associations including the West African Chamber of Agriculture (WACOA), Croplife Ghana, the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), Food & Beverage Association of Ghana, Farmer Organization Network of Ghana, Federation of Association of Ghanaian Exporters, Guzakuza and several regional farmer cooperatives.
About 100 companies from Ghana, India, Turkey, Nigeria, China, the UK, Italy, France and Spain are expected to showcase a diverse range of agricultural solutions, spanning agrochemicals, irrigation systems, agri-tech innovations, biofeeds, food processing and packaging technologies, as well as processed and packaged food and beverages.
Organisers project close to 4,000 business and professional visitors, including commercial and smallholder farmers, food and beverage companies, distributors, wholesalers and retailers.
Thomas James, Project Director of Agritech West Africa at Synergice Events, said the exhibition aligns closely with government’s objectives.
“The event is very much in line with the development goals of the Ghana government’s commitment to value-added agriculture to the national economy and targeted food security,” he stated.
Mr. Bleppony, on behalf of the sector Minister, officially declared the exhibition open, encouraging Ghanaian agribusinesses to forge strong alliances with their international counterparts to accelerate the transformation of the sector.
