…nominations open until 31 October 2025

The 9th edition of the Ghana Energy Awards has been officially launched in Accra, with nominations open until 31 October 2025.

This year’s event is themed “Repositioning the energy sector as a pillar of national development,” highlighting the role of energy as the foundation of the country’s socio-economic growth.

The awards, organised by the Energy Media Group and endorsed by the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition and the World Energy Council–Ghana, have since 2017 honoured individuals and organisations for outstanding contributions to the sector.

In a speech read on his behalf during the media launch, the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, described the awards as a “beacon of excellence, innovation and leadership” that not only celebrate achievement but also encourage commitment to a sustainable energy future.

Event Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Energy Media Group, Henry Teinor, explained that the launch was moved from its usual May/June window to allow broader stakeholder engagement. He said the scheme goes beyond annual celebrations, with initiatives such as the Energy Personalities Outreach Programme (EPOP), which has so far reached over 15,000 Senior High School students nationwide.

The organisers announced a new endorsement from the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC), alongside existing support from the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, the World Energy Council–Ghana, Forvis Mazars, and Casely Brooke Law Firm. They also revealed that a redesigned website and virtual tools are being introduced to widen participation across the country.

Chairman of the awarding panel, Kwame Jantuah, said this year’s theme reflects the vital role of energy in driving industry, healthcare, education and job creation. He noted that categories have been refined to reflect current needs, with new awards including Energy Sector Reformer of the Year, Operational Resilience Award and Emerging Female Leader in Energy.

In total, 26 competitive and six honorary awards will be presented. Core categories include Energy Personality of the Year, CEO of the Year and Energy Company of the Year.

According to the organisers, nominations can be submitted at ghanaenergyawards.com/nomination-category until 31 October 2025. The awards ceremony later this year will bring together leaders and innovators from across the energy value chain to celebrate excellence and chart the future of the energy sector.
