Dr. Clement Apaak Deputy Minister of Education, has officially outdoored Rosebank International University College (RIUC) in Ghana.

The university, which was founded in South Africa and currently operating in more than three other African countries, will offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Ghana.

The launch was attended by ministers of state and regulators, including representatives from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), highlighting the private sector’s crucial role in advancing tertiary education in Ghana.

In his address, Dr. Apaak said the private sector played a major role in helping the government achieve its goal of training a competitive labour force.

He added that public universities alone could not shoulder the burden of providing avenues for higher education for the country’s teeming youth.

The Deputy Minister emphasised that the Ministry had always maintained an open- door policy, welcoming private institutions and higher-level NGOs.

He noted the strong track record of Rosebank University and expressed optimism that it would provide affordable, quality, state-of-the-art, and transformative education to Ghanaians.

Professor Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, the Director-General of GTEC, in a speech read on his behalf, cautioned that accreditation did not end with the award of a certificate.

“It is a continuous, evolving process that involves constant monitoring, review, and improvement” he said.

The Director-General said the Commission would continue to monitor and assess the university’s performance to ensure that quality assurance practices were maintained and improved.

Dr. Linda Meyer, President of Rosebank International University College (RIUC), underscored the relevance of Pan-Africanism, stressing the importance of Africa relying on itself to provide solutions to the continent’s challenges.

She said the university’s decision to expand beyond South Africa reflected these Pan-African ideals, aiming to provide education to the continent’s population without them having to travel abroad.
