The Tema Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Barnabas Nambont Nasumong, has paid a courtesy call on the Director-General of Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Brigadier General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, as part of efforts to deepen collaboration on port security; particularly in light of 24-hour operations commencing at Ghana’s ports.
The visit, which took place on Monday,15th July 2025, focused on enhancing coordination between Ghana Police Service and GPHA Security to ensure safety of life and property within the port environment.
With the newly launched round-the-clock port services expected to increase activity, the Regional Police Commander emphasised a need for heightened police presence to deter crime and maintain law and order.
DCOP Nasumong noted that the Police Service has ensured visibility and swift response mechanisms across the port enclave and its surrounding areas, aimed at pre-empting any criminal activities that may emerge as a result of increased traffic and extended operational hours.
Brigadier General Tanye-Kulono, for his part, lauded continued cooperation between the GPHA Security team and Tema Regional Police Command.
He commended the police’s proactive stance of maintaining a visible presence at the port and reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment in working closely with law enforcement agencies to provide a safe and secure business environment for all port users.
The Police Commander was accompanied by his Staff Officer, Peter Boakye. Also present at the meeting were General Manager of Marketing and Corporate Affairs, GPHA, Dr. Kingsley Antwi-Boasiako; and General Manager of Risk, Mr. David Songotu.
