The Institute of Directors-Ghana (IoD-Gh) has inducted 143 new professionals comprising 17 Fellows, 112 members, and 14 Associates into Membership, reaffirming its commitment to advancing ethical leadership, sound corporate governance, and sustainable development across both public and private sectors of the Ghanaian economy.

The ceremony, held in Accra, brought together accomplished professionals, corporate executives, and academics under a unified vision of strengthening corporate governance at a crucial juncture in Ghana’s national development agenda.

The ceremony served not only as a celebration of achievement but also as a clarion call to service.

A Strategic Partnership for Governance Excellence

A highlight of the event was the formal announcement of a strategic partnership between IoD-Gh and Eunomia Risk Advisory, a specialised firm in ethical governance, institutional resilience, and risk management across jurisdictions.

The collaboration, described as a key milestone by the Institute’s leadership, aims to bolster national capacity in risk governance, as well as health, safety, and environmental compliance.

Tiffany A. Archer, Esq., President & Founder, Eunomia Risk Advisory, Inc. and Marcia Narine Weldon, Esq., Professor, University of Miami School of Law, Startup General Counsel and Founder/CEO, Illuminating Wisdom, LLC, representatives of the Group, pledged their support to the IoD-Gh.

The Institute also extended gratitude to other strategic partners, including the Bank of Ghana (BoG) and International Finance Corporation (IFC) for their continuous support to the Institute as well as their corporate members of the IoD-Gh: Ghana Exim Bank, Volta River Authority, GCB Bank Plc, KEK Insurance Brokers, GOIL Plc and Zoomlion Ghana Limited.

Upholding Core Values in a Time of Transition

Throughout the ceremony, speakers underscored the Institute’s unwavering commitment to its core values of competence, professionalism, and integrity.

A recurring theme was the critical importance of setting the right “tone at the top”—a guiding principle for leaders to embody and model ethical behaviour.

Rev. (Mrs.) Angela Carmen Appiah, FIoD, Outgoing President and Chair of the 10th Governing Council of the Institute, addressing the inductees, emphasised some good corporate governance values that every director should uphold. She explained these with the acronym ATTIRE:

#. Accountability

#. Transparency

#. Trustworthiness

#. Integrity

#. Responsibility and

#. Efficiency or Effectiveness

“Today, we celebrate more than an induction; we celebrate a covenant. A covenant to uphold the highest standards of integrity, accountability, and visionary leadership in a world grappling with complex challenges, including climate crises, inequality, and eroding public trust.’

A Commitment Beyond Titles

Dr. Alfred Braimah, FIoD, the Chief Executive Officer of the Institute, delivering his welcome address, highlighted the significance of the occasion, noting that induction into IoD-Gh comes with responsibilities that extend far beyond professional titles.

“You are now part of a prestigious network dedicated to excellence in sustainable governance and ethical leadership,” he stated. “This is not just a title—it is a commitment to act with integrity and impact.”

He also drew attention to Ghana’s growing environmental and governance challenges, urging new members to become agents of change in addressing issues such as environmental degradation and public accountability.

“Environmental degradation is an existential threat if left unchecked. Our rivers and forests are disappearing. As directors, your influence matters. You must be part of the solution,” he stressed. “Posterity will judge us by what we do today.”

Building a Resilient, Ethical Leadership Pipeline

The event was graced by distinguished personalities, including:

– Professor Douglas Boateng, FIoD, is a devoted Fellow of the Institute and a respected voice in governance.

– Mrs. Mary Asare-Yeboah, Vice-President of the 10th Governing Council and President, who will soon lead the 11th Governing Council of the Institute.

– Ing. Ben Richard Aniagyei, a member of the 10th Governing Council and

– Mr. Emmanuel Yaw Klinogo, a foundation member of the IoD-Gh, is also a training facilitator.

– Ms. Catherine Engmann, the IFC Rep. on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG).

Speakers reiterated the Institute’s vision of nurturing a new generation of ethical and forward-thinking leaders capable of navigating Ghana’s complex governance landscape.

Strengthening ESG Leadership Across Sectors.

The Institute emphasised the growing relevance of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles in today’s business environment. With new members drawn from academia, security services, the insurance sector, public services, etc, the ceremony reflected a strong commitment to cross-sector collaboration.

“As a Governance Institute, we do not merely train leaders; we cultivate stewards. Stewards who recognise that sustainable development is not a destination but a journey anchored in ethics. It demands courage to choose long-term impact over short-term gains, empathy to ensure no community is left behind, and wisdom to balance innovation with responsibility. Rev. Appiah intimated.

A Call to Shape Ghana’s Future

In a powerful closing message, the outgoing President urged all members—new and old—to embrace their roles not merely as corporate figures, but as custodians of Ghana’s governance future.

“You joined this institute at a pivotal time. The world needs leaders who lead by example, not just compliance, but conviction.  Leaders who ask “Why Not?” champion inclusive, equitable solutions and  leaders who build bridges between sectors, generations, and ideologies.”

Ms. Sandra Thompson, Secretary to the BoG and a new Fellow of the institute, expressed gratitude to all stakeholders, including the media, partner organizations, faculty members, and the newly inducted members, noting that  “Together, we can place Ghana firmly on the global map of governance excellence”.
