I could do all my desired things

Enforce all my desirable decisions

Anything, everything

Through the power that empowered me

To do anything

Everything

Under the sun

Without fear of persecution

Of prosecution

By a future, hostile power

I could say all my say

All day long

Anything, everything

I could say all, my own way

Under the freedom of my speech

Under the supreme liberty of exemption

From the existing Sanhedrin

I could pull down what was put up

But I never could put up

What I pulled down

I shouted them down

“Put up, or shut up

You naysayers

You Sanballat

You Tobiah”

I could dig a hole to a full hole

To fill a hole

A whole pit in place of it

I could make a hole lie in wait

The whole day

Since the beginning of the eight

Till the time of exit at the eight

Under the power of a pledge

Under the power of a hollow, hallowed vow

I could drive the excavator

To dig the other hole to the Riverside

I could dig the other hole

To meet the banks of the river

To change the colour of water

To the colour of Mercury

To smile all the way to the Golden Bank

Under the watching eyes of the other ranks

And the presiding authority

I could kill to steal

And still seal the deal

Anything, everything

In the bright, broad daylight

Under the powers that happened to be

Under an excellent clearing agency

Under the selective clearing regime

I could add salt, even to injury

I could add insult, even to perjury

Under the banner of impunity

Under the cover of unlimited pack of immunity

I could assault the judge in his jurisdiction

I could assault the journalist at his duty post

I could assault the people in a protesting procession

All at what cost?

All at life’s cost

Under the culture of silencing the most
