Dr. Francis Kwabena Atta, Head of the Department of Politics and International Relations at Lancaster University Ghana (LUG), has been selected as one of two Ghanaian scholars to participate in the highly competitive Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSI) for Scholar’s programme, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State.
Chosen from a global pool of 108 accomplished scholars, Dr. Atta will join the Institute on U.S. Foreign Policy at the University of Delaware, with programme administration led by the University of Montana.
The SUSI programme offers a prestigious platform for university faculty and policy experts to deepen their understanding of American foreign policy, governance, and the institutional forces that shape global diplomacy—including the media, multilateral institutions, and think tanks.
“It’s an honour to represent Ghana and Lancaster University Ghana on such an international platform,” said Dr Atta. “I look forward to engaging with colleagues from around the world and bringing back knowledge that will benefit our students and enrich classroom learning.”
Spanning five to six weeks, the SUSI programme includes academic sessions and integrated study tours across the United States. It aims to promote mutual understanding and equip scholars with a well-rounded view of U.S. society, values, and policy systems.
Dr Atta’s selection marks another milestone for Lancaster University Ghana, reinforcing its growing role in global academic dialogue and international exchange.
It also reflects LUG’s continued commitment to empowering faculty and students to become changemakers in both local and international policy spaces.
