As the 2024/25 football season concludes across most major leagues worldwide, several Ghanaian players have emerged as key contributors to their teams’ successes, with some lifting silverware and others recording standout individual performances.

Former Black Stars midfielder Jeffrey Schlupp achieved a rare double, claiming two major trophies in one season with different clubs in two countries.

Schlupp began the campaign at Crystal Palace and received an FA Cup winner’s medal after featuring in the early rounds. He later joined Celtic on loan, helping them secure the Scottish Premiership title with a string of strong performances.

Crystal Palace’s historic FA Cup triumph—its first major trophy in 101 years—was also shaped by Eddie Nketiah. The Ghanaian-born English striker, who moved from Arsenal at the start of the season, featured as a substitute in the final against Manchester City and played an instrumental role throughout the competition.

In the English Championship, Black Stars midfielder Salis Abdul Samed celebrated promotion to the Premier League with Sunderland after a season-long loan move from French side RC Lens.

Elsewhere in Europe, former Schalke 04 striker Bernard Tekpetey added another Bulgarian Cup medal to his collection with Ludogorets Razgrad, making it his third successive triumph in the competition. Despite returning from a long-term injury, his presence proved a morale boost for the side, who secured a narrow 1-0 win over CSKA Sofia in the final.

In Israel, young forward Henry Addo lifted the Israeli Premier League title with Maccabi Tel Aviv. While he was an unused substitute in the title-deciding 5-0 victory over Beitar Jerusalem, Addo made 15 appearances and scored once during the campaign.

Red Star Belgrade also celebrated title success in Serbia, with 22-year-old defender Ebenezer Annan playing a key role after returning from a loan spell at OFK Beograd. Annan made 16 league appearances, scoring once and assisting four.

In Belgium, Union Saint-Gilloise claimed the Pro League title for the first time since 1935, with Ghanaian forward Mohammed Fuseini contributing nine goals in 33 appearances. His efforts were central to the club’s historic success.

Romania’s FC Argeș gained promotion to the Superliga with the help of Emmanuel Mensah; while in Switzerland, defender Jonas Adjetey was a mainstay in FC Basel’s title-winning side, making 32 appearances en route to their Super League triumph.

Hungary’s OTP Bank Liga saw 21-year-old Isaac Pappoe win his first career title with Ferencváros, despite making only four appearances during the season.

Across the Atlantic, Joseph Paintsil lifted the MLS Western Conference Championship with LA Galaxy following a 1-0 victory over Seattle Sounders on 1st December, 2024.

These achievements underline the growing influence of Ghanaian footballers across global leagues, with many playing pivotal roles in their teams’ accomplishments.

Not all standout performers lifted trophies, however. Notable names such as Mohammed Kudus, Thomas Partey and Antoine Semenyo delivered strong individual seasons. Semenyo scored a personal best 11 Premier League goals and provided five assists in 37 appearances for AFC Bournemouth, finding the net against title winners Liverpool as well as Manchester United, City, Chelsea and Arsenal. His form has attracted reported interest from top English clubs, including Liverpool and Manchester United.

Iñaki Williams was again among the continent’s best, winning the SPORTY LaLiga MVP award for the second consecutive season.

The Athletic Bilbao forward also secured the Best African Player in Spain accolade for 2024/25, edging past Villarreal’s Pape Gueye and Osasuna’s Enzo Boyomo.

As the season closes, Ghanaian players have not only secured silverware but also reaffirmed their presence and influence across world football.
