Nubuke Foundation is proud to present an exhibition of photographs by Eric Asamoah (b. 1999, Linz, Austria), at our gallery in East Legon, Accra.
Eric Asamoah is the 2024-2025 artist of the YGA – Nubuke Foundation’s career development initiative for Young Ghanaian artists.
Eric’s quest for self-discovery with photography, influenced by his multi-cultural upbringing, reveals his endearingly youthful, yet mature perspective on life.
These photographs capture human desires, sometimes subtle, often palpable… They have a unique ability to engage all the senses. The viewer is transported beyond the visual realm -they feel the breeze and intense heat of the desert sun, taste the salty air, hear the crashing waves…
His work invites viewers to take a daring leap into the future and embrace his dreams too. Entering this dream began long before Eric was born, starting with his parents’ aspiration for a better life away from their home country, Ghana – a story which Eric often reflects on. This universal desire is commonly shared and connects all humankind.
His aesthetics are set by the chemistry of analogue photography. The combination of warm saturated colours of Kodak Portra and Pentax 645 medium format camera serve his poetic vision perfectly, capturing sunsets, sand dunes and poignant expectations.
Eric Asamoah is a self-trained photographer. Eric began his career with an apprenticeship at a graphic design studio during his early teenage years, where he acquired valuable hands-on experience with industry professionals. His passion for photography was further ignited through extensive travels with his camera.
In May 2023, Eric presented his first solo exhibition at the Museum of Photography and Media Art Francisco Carolinum in Linz, Austria.
He currently lives and works in Paris and Linz. This exhibition is made possible with support from Federal Ministry Housing, Arts, Culture, Media and Sport – Republic of Austria (BMWKMS), State of Upper Austria and Austrian Embassy – Ghana. Exhibition opens to the public from Saturday, 31st May and continues until 30 August 2025.
