Faris Elias Attrickie appointed MD of Priority Insurance

The Board of Directors of Priority Insurance Ltd. has appointed Mr. Faris Elias Attrickie as the Managing Director.

Mr  Attrickie is a seasoned and accomplished insurance professional with almost three decades of rich industry experience. His expertise encompasses a robust blend of extensive technical knowledge, profound managerial skills and strong leadership competencies, that position him as a prominent professional in the insurance sector.

His proficiency covers key aspects of insurance including comprehensive assessments of complex risks; policy drafting and interpretations; claims management – including complex claims handling; reinsurance management – including reinsurance program designing; strategic planning, and operations management, among others.

Prior to joining Priority Insurance Ltd., Faris held senior management positions with a couple of insurance companies in Ghana. He served for 12 years at SIC Insurance PLC – 7 years of which he served as the General Manager in charge of Technical Operations.

In that capacity, he was responsible for overseeing the risk assessments and underwriting of diverse range of major risks across Ghana, and managed their associated claims. These included large industrial and commercial property risks, major engineering insurances such as thermal plants and oil refinery risks, among others.

He had the additional responsibility of serving as the Acting Managing Director of SIC Insurance PLC from 2016 to 2017 – during which he demonstrated his strategic leadership capabilities, by overcoming mounting reputational challenges facing the company then, to deliver profitable outcomes.

Faris Attrickie was the Technical Manager for the Ghana Oil and Gas Insurance Pool (GOGIP) from 2011 to 2016 during which period he handled the insurances of some major clients including Tullow Oil, Kosmos Energy, ENI Explorations, HESS Explorations, Anadarko, among others.

He played the leading role in the underwriting of some major upstream oil and gas risks in Ghana, including the construction and operational risks in respect of the three oilfields currently in Ghana (The Jubilee Field, the T.E.N. (Tweneboa, Enyenra and Ntomme) Field, and the Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) Field); and the insurances for the 3 FPSOs currently in Ghana (the FPSO K. Nkrumah, the FPSO JA Kuffuor, and the FPSO JEA Mills).

Other senior management positions earlier held include General Manager in charge of operations at NSIA Ghana Insurance, and Assistant Director – Operations at Regency Alliance Ghana Insurance.

He was a Board Member of the Ghana Oil and Gas Insurance Pool from 2013 to 2016; Board Chairman, ECOWAS Inter-States Road Transport Project from 2016 to 2017; Chairman, Motor Technical Committee of the Ghana Insurers Association from 2019 to 2021; and Board Member, Twifo Oil Palm Plantations Ltd. from 2015 to 2023.

Faris holds a B.Sc. (Admin) Insurance, and a Master’s degree in Public Administration – both from the University of Ghana, Legon; a Diploma in Risk Management and Insurance from the West Africa Insurance Institute, Banjul, The Gambia; and a Certificate in Energy (Oil and Gas) Insurance from the College of Insurance, Insurance Institute of India, Mumbai, India. He is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute, UK; and a Fellow of the West Africa Insurance Institute.

Faris Elias Attrickie is a product – and the pioneer Head Prefect of Twifo Praso Secondary school. He is also a proud alumnus of Achimota School – from where, in recognition of his distinguished performance, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) honoured him with the National Award of Excellence and Distinguished Performance in the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examinations of 1988 in Ghana.

As a lecturer at the Ghana Insurance College (since 2009 to date), and at the West African Insurance Institute, The Gambia (since 2017 to date), Faris has trained, coached and mentored a number of industry professionals. Many OKof his students currently hold senior management and executive management positions across the West African sub-region. He has participated in many international courses, seminars and programs.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Priority Insurance, Mr. Frank Oppong-Yeboah expressed his confidence in Mr. Attrickie, (who was the Chairman’s student at the West African Insurance Institute about 20 years ago). The Chairman assured the Managing Director of the full support of the Board, and charged Mr. Attrickie to employ his diverse skills and rich experience to drive growth and move Priority Insurance to the next level.
