Players abroad: Kudus, Semenyo face off

As various leagues in Europe and the Americas approach their season’s conclusion, professional players in these leagues are putting their best foot forward to avoid relegation, secure contract renewals and pursue trophies or individual glory.

Here’s how Ghanaian footballers performed across various leagues around the globe over the weekend.

England

In the English Premier League (EPL), Mohammed Kudus registered an assist for West Ham in their 2-2 draw against Bournemouth – a match in which Antoine Semenyo played the full game.

These two Black Stars players have been integral to their respective clubs this season and are eager to help their teams secure a top-eight finish to qualify for European championship competitions.

Kamaldeen Sulemana also registered an assist for Southampton in their 3-1 defeat to Tottenham.

In League One, the Ghanaian duo of Kelvin Abrefa and Andy Yiadom contributed to Reading’s 1-0 victory over Wycombe. Jojo Wollacott conceded three goals as Crawley United lost to Stevenage, with the final score being 3-1.

Tarique Fosu climbed off the bench to play 19 minutes for Northampton in their 4-0 win over Peterborough, while Kwame Poku saw 46 minutes of action for Peterborough.

Serbia

Kwaku Osei was in action for Spartak Subotica in their 2-0 loss to Tekstilac Odzaci. Ibrahim Zubairu also saw 35 minutes of action for Partizan in their 2-0 win over Radnick 1923.

Ebenezer Annan lasted 46 minutes in the game for Crvena zvezda in their 3-1 win over OFK Beograd, while Edmund Addo made a brief appearance for OFK Beograd and Samuel Owusu came off the bench to play 27 minutes for OFK.

Ghanaian duo Richardson Denzell and Issah Abass were involved in Jedinstvo UB against Napredak, which ended in a draw.

Belgium

The Belgian league featured many Ghanaians, with the likes of Lawrence Agyekum featuring for Cercle Brugge KSV in their 2-1 win over Beerschot VA where he saw 72 minutes of action. Mohammed Fuseini saw 28 minutes of action for Royale Union SG in their 3-0 win over Gent.

Denis Odoi played 90 minutes for Antwerp in their 3-2 loss to Club Brugge on Sunday, while Christopher Bonsu-Baah played 90 minutes for Genk in their 2-1 win over Anderlecht and Majeed Ashimeru came on as a substitute to play 45 minutes for Anderlecht.

Spain

In La Liga, Inkai Williams played 90 minutes for Athletic Bilbao as they shared the spoils with Villarreal.

Portugal

Semeu was in action for Estrela de Amadora in their 1-0 win over Nacional, while Lawrence Ofori saw 90 minutes of action for Gil Vicente in their 1-0 win over Moreirense.

Italy

In Serie A, Caleb Ekuban saw 22 minutes of action for Genoa in their 1-0 win over Udinese.

Cyprus

Clinton Doudou saw 80 minutes of action for Apollon Limassol in their 1-1 draw against AEK Larnaca. Kingsley Sarfo was in action for APOEL in their 1-0 win over Pafos and Eric Boakye played 90 minutes for Aris in their 2-1 loss to Omonia.

In the same league, Richard Ofori saw 85 minutes of action for Achnas in their 3-1 win over Omonia 29th May. Emmanuel Toku saw eight minutes of action for AEL Limassol in their 2-0 win over Paralimni.

Netherlands

In the Eredivise, Ibrahim Osman saw eight minutes of action for Feyenoord in their 1-0 win over AZ Alkmaar while Ibrahim Sadiq saw 55 minutes of action for AZ Alkmaar.

France

In Ligue 1, Ernest Nuamah lasted only seven minutes for Lyon in their 2-1 win over Lille after picking up an injury. Andre Ayew saw 17 minutes of action for Le Havre in their 2-0 win over Montpellier, while Gidoen Mensah saw 72 minutes of action for Auxerre in their 1-0 win over Rennes.

Germany

In Bundesliga II, Ransford Yeboah Konigsdorffer saw 63 minutes of action for Hamburg in their 3-0 win over Nuremberg.

Albania

Bismark Charles scored a brace for Skenderbeu in their 2-1 win over Laci in the Abissnet Superiore while his countryman Randy Dwumfour was in action for Skenderbeu.

Croatia

Morrison Agyemang saw 90 minutes of action for Sibenik in their 4-1 win over Osijek while Michael Agbekpornu saw 56 minutes of action for Slaven Belupo in their 1-0 loss to Hajduk Split.

Estonia

David Epton featured in Tammeka’s 1-0 defeat to Paide in the Meistriliiga Round five fixture on Saturday. Ibrahim Jabir saw 32 minutes of action for Kalju in their 2-1 loss to Flora, while Enock Otoo was in action for Levadia in their 1-0 win over Narva.

Israel

Patrick Twumasi came on as a substitute to feature in Beitar Jerusalem’s 1-0 defeat to Hapoeel Haifa. Similarly, Euigene Ansah climbed off the bench to score for Ashdod in their 2-1 win over Ironi Tiberias while Ebenezer Mamatah was in action for Ashdod.
