In an era of rising patient expectations and rapidly evolving healthcare standards, The Trust Hospital Company Ltd stands out as a trailblazer. With a strong commitment to quality care, patient safety, and the implementation of SafeCare protocols, the hospital is redefining what it means to deliver healthcare with excellence across its 10 facilities (6 clinics, 4 hospitals) in Accra.
A Commitment to Quality Care
At Trust Hospital, quality isn’t just a goal – it’s a culture that permeates every level of the institution. Guided by its Quality Agenda, the hospital champions evidence-based, patient-centered care rooted in compassion and clinical precision.
“Quality is at the core of everything we do. We continuously assess our processes, systems, and outcomes to ensure our patients receive the best possible care. It’s a dynamic and ongoing commitment,” says Dr. Juliana Oye Ameh, CEO of The Trust Hospital.
A key component of this approach is personalization. By leveraging modern technology and data analytics, clinicians develop individualized treatment plans that meet each patient’s unique needs, improving both outcomes and overall experiences.
The Quality Journey: Embracing SafeCare Standards
In pursuit of the vision outlined in its Strategic Plan, Trust Hospital partnered with SafeCare by PharmAccess to enhance the quality of healthcare delivery across its facilities. A comprehensive assessment was conducted throughout the hospital network, resulting in hospitals being at Level 3 and clinics at Level 2 on the SafeCare quality scale.
Top management, facility heads, unit leaders, and Quality Focal Persons participated in intensive training focused on:
  • Recognizing quality improvement as a strategic investment,
  • Enhancing patient safety and clinical outcomes,
  • Reducing operational waste, and
  • Driving overall efficiency.
Participants engaged with two interactive digital quality improvement platforms developed by SafeCare, designed to facilitate task assignments, provide automated support, and monitor progress in implementing the SafeCare Standards.
To maintain this momentum, the hospital continuously organizes a series of internal presentations to define the next steps. Trust Hospital has adopted a stepwise, facility-based improvement approach and formed quality teams across all staff levels. This inclusive strategy ensures that everyone, from leadership to frontline staff, is actively involved in the journey toward healthcare excellence.
“As we move forward, we encourage all staff to fully engage in this transformation. When we care deeply, the impossible becomes possible,” Dr. Ameh emphasized during one of the training sessions.
Prioritizing Patient Safety
Patient safety remains a cornerstone of Trust Hospital’s mission. The institution has embedded a proactive safety culture that exceeds industry benchmarks, supported by rigorous protocols, continuous staff development, and advanced technology.
A flagship initiative is the SafeCare Program, which addresses key areas, including infection prevention, fall prevention, and medication safety. Real-time monitoring systems have been deployed to identify and alert staff to potential risks, enabling timely interventions and safer outcomes.
“At The Trust Hospital, we aim to create an environment where patients feel safe and confident in the care they receive,” says Lillian Annan, Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services. “Our staff are empowered to uphold the highest standards in clinical safety, ensuring that every patient journey is secure, dignified, and compassionate.”
Innovation for Safer, Smarter Care
Innovation is central to Trust Hospital’s commitment to improvement. The hospital has implemented systems that track real-time health metrics, early flag warning signs, and enable rapid clinical responses.
These innovations not only reduce the risk of hospital-acquired conditions but also improve clinical decision-making,  enhancing recovery times and reducing readmission rates.
“Safety and quality go hand in hand,” says Dr. Juliana Oye Ameh, CEO. “With innovative tools, we’re better equipped to deliver safe, timely, and personalized care to every patient.”
Building Capacity Through Continuous Learning
Trust Hospital understands that skilled professionals are the driving force behind quality care. Continuous training and capacity-building are vital elements of the hospital’s strategy. Staff regularly receive updates on emerging practices to ensure consistent excellence in care and safety.
As part of the hospital’s Agenda 2027, management and staff undertook a comprehensive Customer Service Excellence Training, reflecting the hospital’s commitment to enhancing client experiences and driving organizational success. The training emphasized the importance of exceptional service and its direct impact on patient outcomes, staff growth, and institutional success.
Staff were also trained to develop innovative and efficient approaches to delivering outstanding service, ultimately benefiting both clients and employees.
The hospital’s Safety and Quality Committees conduct regular audits, reviews, and feedback sessions to identify areas for improvement. Whether in maternity, surgery, or outpatient services, every unit is held to the highest standards.
“We don’t rest on our laurels,” says Dr. Ameh. “Each day, we refine our processes to elevate the care we provide. Our patients deserve nothing less.”
