Rivia, a Ghana-based healthtech startup operating a branded, tech-enabled network of company-owned and partner clinics, is marking its first anniversary with significant milestones in expanding access to quality primary healthcare.
Since its launch in March 2024, Rivia has built a scalable network of healthcare facilities, integrating technology, branding, and partnerships to improve the healthcare experience. The company’s healthcare network boasts over 40,000 patients across 3 regions in Ghana.
Addressing Ghana’s Healthcare Challenges
Ghana’s healthcare system faces critical challenges—limited access to quality primary care, long wait times, and low patient trust in healthcare providers. With only 11,000 health facilities serving a population of 34.4 million, the facility-to-population ratio stands at 1:3,000, far below the World Health Organizations (WHO)’s recommended 1:1,000. Meanwhile, private sector spending accounts for 58% of total healthcare costs, yet private health insurance covers less than 1% of the population.
Rivia’s model aims to bridge these gaps by offering a hybrid healthcare network that combines company-owned flagship clinics, franchised partner clinics, and network-affiliated facilities under a single platform.
A Rivia franchised clinic which uses the Rivia brand, technology and quality standards to deliver care. The result is that this clinic has increased its average daily patient visits from 2 to 10 in 10 months.
Milestones Achieved in One Year

3 flagship clinics (Dzorwulu, Labone, and East Legon).
-
5 franchised locations operating under the Rivia brand.
-
11 network partners using Rivia’s technology to serve patients.
-
The only private dialysis center in Ghana’s Eastern Region, providing critical care.

A new surgical theater under development at Rivia’s Labone facility to enhance specialist care.
In moments of crisis, Rivia’s network has played a vital role. When government dialysis machines broke down three weeks ago, Rivia’s dialysis center stepped in, ensuring critical care for patients who would have otherwise had no options.
Koforidua Clinic (a Rivia Clinic) operates the only private dialysis clinic in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
Innovation in Healthcare Delivery
At the core of Rivia’s model is technology. The company has developed RiviaOS, a proprietary clinic management platform, to improve efficiency and manage scale across its network. Additionally, RiviaCare, a paid healthcare membership program, is enabling more Ghanaians—particularly employees of small and medium enterprises (SMEs)—to access affordable, high-quality healthcare.
RiviaCare offers:
-
Free in-network doctor consultations
-
Virtual care with Rivia’s medical team
-
Discounted medications and lab tests
-
Priority referrals within the Rivia network
-
Remote health monitoring
