Government has been urged to prioritise waste as a source of source of energy generation to augment Ghana’s power supply.
Speaking at the commemoration of the 2025 Global Recycling Day event, the General Manager of Safisana Ghana limited, Elikplim Asilevi said waste management is a major economic contributor to owing to its numerous byproducts such as energy generation and organic fertilizer for food sustainability.
He added that prioritises, waste management will help reduce over dependence on natural resources and protect the environment.
As part of efforts to create awareness about the day, Safisana hosted some pupils within the Ashaiman municipality on educational sensitize them about upcycling, recycling, and sustainable waste management while motivating the pupils to become active participants in environmental sustainability.
Waste management remains a challenge in Ghana, where littering and open waste burning pose environmental and health risks. As future changemakers, the youth need to adopt and promote better waste practices at home, in school, and in their communities.
The hands-on learning experiences outside the classroom, aims to create an understanding of sustainability and provide real-world insight into the role recycling plays in improving community well-being.
Global Recycling Day was instituted in 2018 to help recognise, and celebrate, the importance recycling plays in preserving our primary resources and securing the future of our planet.
It aims to tell world leaders that recycling is simply too important not to be a global issue and to call on people across the planet to think of waste as a resource and not just waste.
