The European Union (EU) has reiterated its dedication to sustainable development in the country thought its Green Growth Ghana Project, which recently conducted a two-day training session in Bolgatanga, the capital of the Upper East Region.

The project, launched in October 2024 in collaboration with the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) and the Presbyterian University of Ghana, seeks to drive inclusive economic transformation by empowering women and youths in agro-forestry value chains.

The training in Bolgatanga brought together over 50 entrepreneurs, with a notable 60 percent participation from women.

The sessions focused on integrating modern agricultural techniques, innovative technologies and sustainable business models into everyday practices.

Participants received training in critical areas such as cooperative management, sustainable agricultural practices, financial literacy, market research and digital innovation.

These skills are expected to help participants overcome challenges faced by smallholder farmers, start-ups and agricultural cooperatives in accessing markets, finance and technology.

The Team Lead of the project, Christopher Addy-Nayo, noted the importance of the training, saying: “By equipping local entrepreneurs with the tools and knowledge they need, we are laying the foundation for a future where environmental responsibility drives economic prosperity”.

The EU’s involvement extends beyond financial contributions, offering technical expertise, strategic guidance and innovative approaches that underpin the project’s long-term vision.

The support ensures that the Green Growth Ghana Project delivers measurable outcomes, in a bid to promote a sustainable and inclusive economic environment.

So far, the training sessions have demonstrated the importance of integrating modern agricultural techniques, innovative technologies and sustainable business models into everyday practices, according to some beneficiaries.

Some of the participants said the skills acquired would be essential in overcoming the challenges they face on daily basis.

The EU stated that it remains dedicated in ensuring that the project delivers measurable outcomes, aligning with its commitment to environmental sustainability and economic development in the country.

The overarching goal of the project is to support sustainable development by empowering local communities and promoting environmental stewardship.
