ASA Savings and Loans Ltd, a leading financial institution in its quest to champion climate protection has collaborated a volunteer group, known as Buzstopboys to promote environmental sustainability.
The maiden edition took place at St. Justin Anglican Basic School at Ablekuma and Dansoman ‘2’ Basic School in the Greater Accra Region, and was on the topic ‘Climate Protection’.
Heneba Kwadwo Safo, leader of the Buzstopboys spoke to the school populace extensively on proper disposal of waste particularly plastics.
He disclosed that plastics when properly segregated from other general waste could be recycled and use for other purposes.
He entreated the pupils on the need to patronize environmentally friendly goods, and encouraged them to practice personal hygiene.
The Sustainability Manager of ASA, Richard Nartey revealed the reason the school populace was targeted for this campaign. “As a corporate body, we appreciate the amount of waste generated by the younger generation and we firmly believe that when they are made aware of the importance of climate protection at the youthful age, it make the problems associated with waste much resolved”.
He highlighted the importance trees served during his time to talk to the pupils and donated a bottle-like plastic waste collector to encourage them to do the right thing, and demonstrated to them how it is used.
In all over 400pupils participated in the educative session, and the pupils were given time to ask questions with answers provided by the facilitators.
