Misornu Safety Center has trained residents of Teiman, a growing community in Accra in security awareness, mediation, and emotional intelligence in a seminar.
The seminar which was organized by the Misornu Safety Center in collaboration with the Sheepgate Outreach Ministries, aims to equip participants with practical skills to prevent crime, resolve disputes amicably, and enhance personal and community safety.
The event is part of a broader campaign by the Misornu Safety Center to promote security consciousness among Ghanaians. Through these engagements, the Center seeks to empower citizens with knowledge and tools to foster peace and stability in their communities.
The seminar brought together experts from various security and conflict resolution disciplines to educate and empower the residents. Among the presenters were experienced police detectives who provided valuable insights into current crime trends and preventive measures.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) (retd) and the founder of Misornu Safety Center, David Eklu underscored the significance of the initiative, stressing the need for community members to gain holistic knowledge on security, safety, mediation, and emotional intelligence.
“Security is not only the responsibility of law enforcement. Every individual must be informed and prepared to safeguard themselves and their communities,” he said.
He reiterated that “the program forms part of the Center’s broader objective to enhance security and safety awareness among citizens, ultimately contributing to crime and conflict prevention.”
An Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) expert, Edmund Mingle introduced participants to ADR mechanisms, particularly mediation, highlighting the benefits of using mediation for amicable dispute prevention or resolution, including crime prevention.
An Emotional Intelligence expert, James Addison also guided attendees through the fundamental aspects of emotional intelligence, emphasizing its role in fostering security, stability, and community harmony.
Daniel Kem-Shemen, Headpastor of Sheepgate Ministries, on his part, commended the Center of the security awareness project, and acknowledged the importance of being proactive in ensuring personal and community safety while embracing peaceful conflict resolution methods.
He assured the Center of the church’s continued support and collaboration to sustain the benefits, saying “it is vital for people to be well-informed and equipped to handle security challenges effectively.”
Residents who participated in the event expressed their appreciation for the insightful presentations and practical guidance provided by the experts.
