The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged party members to unite and avoid blame games following the NPP’s loss in the 2024 general elections.
Speaking to a crowd of supporters who visited his residence to express solidarity, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged the electoral defeat and encouraged members to remain engaged and committed to the party’s vision.
Analyzing the outcome, Dr. Bawumia pointed out that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) did not significantly increase their voter base compared to the 2020 elections. “Our loss was primarily because many NPP supporters chose not to vote, effectively handing victory to the NDC,” he said.
He urged party members to reflect on the loss and take proactive steps to regain momentum. “There is more work to be done,” he emphasized, calling for unity and perseverance as the party prepares for the future.
Acknowledging the disappointment felt by supporters, Dr. Bawumia encouraged them to recognize the role of divine providence and avoid actions that could further divide the party.
“At this stage, let us begin to build again. It is not about individual ambition. Once the party is ready, we will be better positioned for the elections,” he stated.
The party supporters, made up of constituency executives and elders, among others were led by their various parliamentary candidates in the surprise visit to the resident of the Vice President.
The gathering, comprising constituency executives, elders, and parliamentary candidates, represented constituencies such as Ayawaso East, Anyaa Sowutoum, Weija-Gbawe, and Klottey Korle.
Supporters took turns expressing their loyalty to the party and urged leaders to address incidents of alleged hooliganism and vandalism by NDC members following their electoral victory.
