The 6th edition of the Hospitality Awards Africa was held in Accra celebrating excellence across the continent’s hospitality industry. Beyond recognizing outstanding achievements, this year’s event spotlighted a critical issue: mental health within the sector.
Delasie Dogbey, a consultant, life and mindset coach, mental health advocate, and John Maxwell leadership coach, delivered the keynote address at the ceremony.
He emphasized the need to prioritize mental health among hospitality professionals, highlighting its impact on staff well-being and overall service quality.
“Happy and mentally healthy staff are more engaged, efficient, and equipped to deliver exceptional guest experiences,” Dogbey noted.
He urged industry leaders to create supportive workplaces that prioritize mental health, tackle emotional burdens, and invest in regular wellness programmes.
“The hospitality industry deserves to enjoy the happiness it gives out,” he stated, calling for initiatives that promote holistic wellness.
Dogbey’s insights were echoed by award recipients, who used their platform to advocate for increased mental health resources in the industry. Several winners highlighted the direct link between team well-being and sustainable success, underscoring the need for collective action to foster supportive environments.
The awards ceremony concluded with a renewed commitment among industry leaders to implement meaningful changes. Stakeholders pledged to enhance mental health support systems, recognizing their role in driving innovation and excellence.
This year’s Hospitality Awards Africa was not just a celebration of achievements but also a call to action for better mental health standards across the hospitality sector, ensuring the well-being of the people who drive its success.
