The Zion Helping Hand Foundation (ZHHF), a non-governmental organisation dedicated to transforming lives and communities, celebrated its fifth anniversary on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at the Presbyterian Women’s College of Education (PWCE) in Aburi, Eastern Region.
The milestone event highlighted the foundation’s achievements since its inception in 2019 and sets the stage for future development efforts.
Themed ‘Five Years of Impacting Lives: Our Achievements, Challenges and Future’, the celebration brought together patrons, executives, clergy, aspiring parliamentarians and supporters to reflect on ZHHF’s journey.
A key highlight of the event was a fund-raising project launch, aimed at constructing a two-unit block for underprivileged children in the Abetima community of the Eastern Region. This initiative is designed to create a safe and conducive environment for learning and personal development.
In his address, Emmanuel Amenigye, President – ZHHF, attributed the foundation’s success to collective efforts of its supporters, members and patrons. He recounted the foundation’s numerous charitable activities across different regions, while acknowledging the challenges faced; such as limited sponsorships, low member participation, transportation difficulties and the need for an office space.
“We have learned valuable lessons from these challenges,” Mr. Amenigye stated. “As we look ahead, we are committed to strengthening our operations and continuing our mission to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.”
He also unveilled the foundation’s 2025-2035 Strategic Plan, which aligns with key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – including eradicating poverty, promoting health & well-being and supporting quality education.
The plan focuses on constructing a nursery block in Abetima and aims to foster partnerships with stakeholders, NGOs and civil society organisations. ZHHF also announced plans to establish an office in Aburi to streamline its operations.
Mr. Amenigye called for ongoing support from individuals, organisations and well-meaning Ghanaians – both locally and abroad, emphasising the “spirit of giving’s” importance in driving meaningful change.
The keynote speaker, Kwame Ohene Kwade, highlighted the crucial role of young people in shaping Ghana’s future. He acknowledged the social, economic and political challenges facing the nation, but framed these as opportunities for youth to be the change-makers of today. Mr. Kwade urged young Ghanaians to embrace three key pillars – integrity, innovation and collaboration – while working to build a “new Ghana”.
He encouraged the audience to find their unique purpose and contribute to national development through avenues like business, technology, education or activism. “Purpose-driven action is essential to restoring trust, hope and transforming the country,” Mr. Kwade asserted.
As part of the anniversary festivities, ZHHF recognised several patrons and members who have been instrumental in advancing the foundation’s mission. The event concluded with a symbolic cake-cutting ceremony to mark the milestone.
