Poetry Corner: Through the Years

0

It takes the first step to take the second one

A second one

For the two to tango

He took the first step to make us one

For the two of us to tango

It was wobbly at first

It was wobbly, the first step

It was a weak step at first

Then…a sure one

He hauled me to his side

And he hailed me as his wife

And so for a long haul

I said he was my man for life

And so have we been

Through the years

Through the years of thick and thin

Through years of thin and thick

It was thick through thin

Then I became his only bone from many bones

And stepped into his life

He said I was a special rib

I said he was a special gift

And so have we been

Through the years

Through the years of fears

Through the years of tears

When we tear out our fears and tears

When we turn to share our cheers

It takes two to traverse the chills uphill

To pay the bills even when the bills spill to the brim

It takes two to taste the thrills downhill

To feel the perils of the ills

It takes two to hold on to two hands

To swim to the shore still afloat

It takes two to step unto shifting sand

And so we tried together

We cried together

We sighed together

When we mattered to each other

And so we embarked together

We sailed together

We berthed together

When we mattered to each other

And so we bided together

We abided together

We binded together

Throughout the years

Through to these years

When we are embracing our mission

When we are celebrating a milestone

And so shall we be

Through the years ahead

Through the years ahead

Uncertain though things may be

Unshaken our resolve will be

Unfading our love will be
