Standard Chartered recently hosted an engaging digital masterclass as part of its skill-based employee volunteering week.

The session aimed at equipping entrepreneurs, business owners and job seekers living with disabilities with foundational knowledge in key digital areas. The session covered topics such as leveraging social media, ensuring cybersecurity, and understanding digital payments.

The masterclass is part of Standard Chartered’s commitment to driving inclusive communities. Employee volunteering is an initiative of the Bank where employees get a 3-day mandatory leave to support a worthwhile cause. They can participate in skills-based volunteering and volunteering aligned with Futuremakers; the Banks community engagement initiative.

The digital masterclass session highlighted how digital platforms can serve as powerful tools for business growth. Participants learned strategies to expand their market reach using social media, potentially transforming personal accounts into profitable business channels.

Participants were also encouraged to find their unique voice in the digital space. As one of the presenters emphasised, “Everyone wants to hear someone who is opinionated and different. Own your voice, don’t be afraid. The session highlighted the importance of content creation and using social media as a powerful tool to boost business reach and become advocates for their community.

Cybersecurity formed another crucial component of the masterclass. Participants were educated on how they can confidently and safely navigate digital financial spaces. Practical tips, such as avoiding suspicious links, were shared to protect their digital assets and identities.

Further, the masterclass delved into the importance of digital payments and the various methods available. Participants were enlightened on the wide range of payment platforms available in today’s world. This information is crucial as Ghana moves towards a more cashless economy, ensuring that persons with disabilities are not left behind in this digital transformation.

As Standard Chartered continues its efforts in giving back to the communities in which it operates, sessions like these play a crucial role in bridging the digital divide and ensuring that all members of society can participate fully in today’s digital economy.
