In a gallant display of dexterity and aplomb, the GCB Bank Sports Team emerged victorious at the recently concluded Citi Business Olympics, sweeping a whopping nine awards.
Held at the Eden Heights Sports Complex in Weija on Saturday, September 28, the 2024 Business Olympics brought together over 60 companies from various industries to compete in a wide range of sporting disciplines, fostering team spirit and networking opportunities.
Participating companies engaged in keen competition for the most coveted title and bragging rights in disciplines like football, table tennis, volleyball, arm wrestling, chess, lime and spoon, and tug of war. In a star-studded display of skill and tenacity, the eagle demonstrated its dominance, soaring high above all the competing companies.
The GCB Sports Team won a staggering nine awards, including six gold, one silver, and two bronze medals, cementing its place as the overall winner.
For gold, the men’s team dominated in Lawn Tennis, Volleyball, and Arm Wrestling, while the female team conquered the other teams in Lime and Spoon, Sack Race, and Tug-of-War. The male team secured a silver medal in the Sack Race, whereas the female team earned bronze medals in Draught and Lawn Tennis.
“We promised, and we have delivered! We simply demonstrated a true sign of resilience as Ghana’s dominant bank, even in sports. As reigning champions, we were geared up to maintain our title and set a record in this country – the first and only organization to win the competition back-to-back seven consecutive times without sweat,” one sportsman remarked in excitement.
The Citi Business Olympics has been organized since 2016, and GCB Bank PLC has been participating since. Outside the corridors of business, the Bank stems its position in sports, mirroring its rich and diverse staff strength.

He suggested to the organizers to consider a hall of fame that would feature GCB Bank as the benchmark for other competing teams to emulate.
“Every year, we will just come and play around, collect the trophies and titles, and watch the rest fight over the remaining crumbs. We are and will always be your bank for life!” he added.
