The annual oil and gas conference of the Ghana Upstream Petroleum Chamber takes place in Accra today. The Guest of Honor is the Ambassador of the United States Government to Ghana, Virginia Palmer.

The opening event will be chaired by the Managing Director of MODEC and Vice Chairman of the Chamber, Theophilus Ahwireng.

The chamber’s annual Ghana Oil and Gas conference focuses on examining the performance of the upstream industry in Ghana and on sharing ideas on how to further reinvigorate it.

Over the next two day’s participants will be taken through four presentations geared at highlighting the key issues facing the industry. The first presentation and a highlight of the conference is the presentation of the 2024 annual report on the industry.

It provides a comprehensive overview of the upstream industry and its contributions to the economy and it includes recommendations for addressing the challenges and for capitalizing on the opportunities.

The other three presentations will cover the critical subjects of how the country can monetize its natural gas resources, how it can deepen local content and how to secure financing for the operations of Ghanaian service companies. Each report ends with recommendations.

On the recommendation front, the report highlights the need to encourage exploration by expediting the award of new exploration licenses and encouraging infrastructure led exploration to create a pipeline of development projects.

Commenting on the event, the Chief Executive Officer of the chamber, David Ampofo, said “the potential this industry holds for Ghana is enormous.Fostering a more conducive environment to attract major investment upstream, must surely be the way to go.

Working in partnership with government, we at the chamber will do all we can to support the viability and sustainability of the industry so that oil and gas can become a catalyst for economic growth”.
