The hospitality industry in the Sekondi- Takoradi Metropolis have increased their revenue over the weekend as a results of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Manifesto launch.
Individuals, party faithfuls within the country and beyond filled the hotels, guest houses, food joints, restaurants, drinking sports and other interesting places to patronise their services. Also, traders have taken advantage to do brisk business.
They sold all sorts of NPP paraphernalia and other items at the forecourt of Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS,), venue for the event and at other vantage points.
The items sold included flags, bags, bracelets, beads, necklaces, caps, scarfs, vuvuzelas and morflers, all branded in NPP colours as well as other food items.
This has led to an increase in sales and boosted the local revenue.
Most of the traders the B&FT spoke to in an interview were excited that the NPP chose Sekondi -Takoradi for the national manifesto launch.
“Apart from the excitement the event has brought to us in the the metropolis, it has also helped to boost the local economy” Madam Veronica Kwofie said.
“Apart from the money, those of us here are making , almost all the hotels in the metropolis were booked for party members attending the programme from other districts and regions in the country” Kojo Eshun said.
“We are grateful to the NPP, and I believe the journey towards breaking the eight in the next general elections has began,” one of the visibly elated traders remarked”.
Meanwhile, a visit to the event grounds also reveals that the NPP fever has gripped the atmosphere.
Posters of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flag- bearer of the NPP in the next general elections, and his running mate as well as that of various parliamentary candidates of the party in the metropolis are pasted at every nook and cranny of the venue.
Some party activists were also seen distributing NPP stickers and flyers about the launch to the people.
