European Union (EU) Ghana Office, has selected 45 brilliant students as beneficiaries of the esteemed Erasmus Plus Scholarship to offer Masters’ programmes in different European countries.
This prestigious scholarship scheme provides a unique opportunity for the selected students to pursue higher education in Europe, fostering global learning and cultural exchange.
The scholarship covers tuition fees, living expenses, and travel costs, enabling these students to focus on their academic pursuits without financial burdens.
Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Ghana, Irchad Razaaly, speaking at an orientation ceremony for the selected, emphasised that the EU has again proven its commitment to human capital development and economic empowerment of the youth empowerment.
He added that education support and job creation would remain a key priority of the EU in Ghana, and reiterated that beneficiaries will enjoy not only academic experience but also cultural diversity.
“Be generous to share with your future school, room and project mates some of the exciting cultural diversities of Ghana, such as the food, dance, music, etc. I hope the two years of your study in Europe will make you a great leader,” he said.
Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, urged the departing students to take advantage of the more friendly education systems in Europe to give up their best and come out with success.
“In our environment, professors want you to fail or struggle to get a pass while some boast that an ‘A’ is not possible in their course. However, in Europe and America, the lecturer wants you to pass and gives you the best assistance to pass, so be open-minded and engage your professor when the need is,” he said.
Furthermore, he said: “Remember that one day your story will change. My parents never attended school but I am an education minister and that is why you must believe in miracles and dream big. Believe that you can be the best in the world and change the world,” he added.
The education minister commended the EU for its unwavering support of the country’s education sector from the basic level to the tertiary level, touting the recent support to the Technical Vocational Engineering and Training (TVET) sector as highly transformative.
A beneficiary, Alexis Selorm, an alumni of St. Martins SHS who has gained admission to Åbo Akademi University (ÅAU) in Finland, to study Engineering for Data Intensive Systems (EDISS), expressed his excitement for the scholarship and opportunity to study in Europe stating that he is confident to return as an expert in the field of study to contribute to the country’s development.
Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, in a speech read on his behalf, highlighted that this initiative is critical in creating the right mix of expertise required to develop the country.
“The opportunity will strategically prepare you and place you in a position to take advantage of top-tier job opportunities in the global market. So, be bold, be inquisitive, and make the best out of the opportunity,” he stated.
He urged beneficiaries to avail themselves of partnerships, collaboration, and peer reviews to make their learning experience a comprehensive one.
