Access Bank Ghana Plc has concluded its annual wellness month with a vibrant and engaging staff games event, underscoring its commitment to promoting employee wellbeing.

Launched three years ago, this month-long initiative is part of Access Bank Ghana Plc’s workplace intervention programmes to foster a healthy and positive work environment.

The wellness month celebration has evolved from focusing solely on physical wellness to encompassing mental, emotional, and social wellbeing, incorporating a wider range of activities and new wellness trends based on employee feedback.

This year’s theme, ‘Building on Healthy Habits’, emphasised the importance of sustainability and growth in maintaining wellness practices, encouraging employees to adopt, cultivate, and strengthen healthy habits over time.

The Access Bank wellness month celebration highlights the bank’s dedication to overall employee wellbeing, recognising that a healthy workforce is both productive and engaged. This year’s Wellness Month featured several notable events, including virtual fitness classes adapted to hybrid work environments, allowing both remote and in-office staff to participate.

Two webinars focused on mental and reproductive health, as well as nutritional counseling, were facilitated by industry experts to raise awareness on critical issues.

The walk challenge saw Access Bank Ghana employees recording over 70 million active steps, equivalent to 53,568 kilometers, via the Pacer fitness app, with the most active participants rewarded.

The Access Games (TAG) was an outdoor event designed to promote teamwork, reduce stress, and create networking opportunities through competitive games such as soccer, tennis, and swimming.

Managing Director of Access Bank (Ghana) Plc, Olumide Olatunji, emphasised that a healthy workforce is a productive one and stated: “At Access Bank, we recognise that our most valued and cherished asset is our employees. The wellbeing of our employees is paramount, and we are committed to fostering an environment that promotes physical health, mental resilience, and a balanced lifestyle. The Wellness Month truly proves our commitment to providing a platform for our staff to connect, rejuvenate, and thrive.”

Looking forward, Access Bank Ghana Plc has rolled out an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to improve employees’ psycho-social wellbeing, providing a 24-hour helpline for support from licensed specialists, including psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists.

The bank has also introduced a flexi-work option, allowing employees to work from branches closer to their homes to reduce stress and increase productivity, as well as ensure that all employees undergo mandatory health screenings annually to assess and promote their physical and mental health.
