GRASAG  President appointed to steering committee of Global Student Forum

Mr. Emmanuel Owusu, the National President of the Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG), has been appointed to the Steering Committee of the Global Student Forum (GSF) for the 2024/2025 period. This appointment is historic as Mr. Owusu becomes the first Ghanaian to hold this influential position, representing the interests of African students on a global platform.

The Global Student Forum (GSF) is an international organization that encompasses student unions and associations from over 135 countries and territories. It serves as the mother body for continental student unions and associations, playing a pivotal role in advocating for the rights, interests, and welfare of students worldwide. The GSF aims to enhance the global student community through policy advocacy, capacity building, and fostering international collaboration.

In addition to his role on the Steering Committee, Mr. Owusu has also been appointed as the Coordinator for the Postgraduate Affairs Working Group within the GSF. This role highlights his deep commitment and expertise in addressing the issues pertinent to postgraduate students, emphasizing his dedication to higher education. Importantly, he will be representing the All-Africa Students Union (AASU) on the Steering Committee, ensuring that the unique perspectives and needs of African students are well-represented.

His role as the National President of GRASAG has been marked by numerous successful initiatives such the Refurbishment of the GRASAG National Secretariat, Strategic engagement with Foreign Missions in Ghana, GRASAG Civic Education Program, GRASAG Policy Research Index (GPRI) which led to unveiling its recent research report on the 24-hour economy policy and the much-praised GRASAG Presidential Policy Lecture, aimed at positioning GRASAG as strategic development partner in nation building. He has effectively managed diverse perspectives, steered organizational strategies, and advocated for the needs of postgraduate students, showcasing his exceptional leadership qualities.

Mr. Owusu’s new roles at the Global Student Forum are expected to significantly elevate the interests of African students and students in general on the global stage.
