The president of Groupe Nduom Ghana, Dr Nana Kweku Nduom has reiterated his outfit’s commitment to integrating sustainable practices into every facet of their operations.

Dr.  Nduom noted that, as a multi-sectorial business group, they had unique position and an even greater responsibility to lead by example.

“Our operations span across various industries, from manufacturing and agriculture to technology and services. Each of these sectors plays a vital role in our economy, but they also impact our environment”, he said.

The Groupe Nduom Ghana president made these observations at this year’s World Environment Day while marking the day with tree planting with some of his staff at the Coconut Grove Regency Hotel in Accra.

The World Environment Day is celebrated annually on June 5.

According to him, “the day   is not just a day of recognition but a call to action for each one of us”.

He added: “We are in the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration and as such, during this year and the next several years, organizations all over the globe, including Groupe Nduom, will be making the environment a priority not only on World Environment Day but all throughout the year and decade in an effort to achieve some impressively ambitious goals”.

Dr. Kweku Nduom further noted that, this year’s theme, which focuses on “restoring our lands, stopping desertification, and building drought resilience”, were pressing issues that demand immediate and sustained attention, not just globally, but also here at home.

He said, as a company they had collective responsibility towards the planet.

“We are in the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration and as such, during this year and the next several years, organizations all over the globe, including Groupe Nduom, will be making the environment a priority not only on World Environment Day but all throughout the year and decade in an effort to achieve some impressively ambitious goals”, he said.

He said at their annual Management Retreat in January this year, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) was one of the major themes.

“We had a resource person who gave us some education on how ESG can not only benefit the environment and our stakeholders but also how it could improve our companies’ bottom lines. “Since then we have had a team working with the companies in the group to reduce our generation of waste, decrease our use of fossil fuels, and generally make sustainability a priority”, he stated

Ensuring that they work towards their goals, Dr Kweku Nduom mentioned some specific actions which Groupe Nduom had taken this year.

These, he said, include; gathering base line data across the companies in the groupe to determine the size of their impact on the environment, a weekly public education programme called the ‘GN Power Climate Change on Eezy FM 107.5, introduction of indoor plants in a number of their offices to improve air quality and by extension, improve the well-being of our staff, customers, and other stakeholders.

The rest include; staff tree-planting challenge and 500 trees planting target set up by the company this year as part of commemorating this year’s World Environment Day.

Earlier, the General Manager GN Power Company Limited, an entity of Groupe Nduom, Ing. Joyce Naa Anowa Oturoku, said, the environmental day celebration allowed them  to reflect on the consequences if “we fail to act now and finally we are reminded that the time to act is now”.
