- Afful Nkwanta, Techiman Kenten Markets traders benefit from free medical screening
The Swedru Business Centre of the ASA Savings and Loans Limited to ensure good health care delivery has supported the Otabilkrom Health Centre in the Central Region, with items.
They were presented with an air condition, a television set, a double decker fridge and six dustbins to help in the segregation of waste.
Mohammad Nasimul Islam, Area Manager of the company said, the items are to support the health centre, to give off their best in effective healthcare delivery and forms part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility.
He explained that the Otabilkrom Health Centre has been supported because it provides better medical service to the community people. “Through them, the health of the rural people has improved, hence the need for the donation”.
Therefore, he called on organisations to support to health centres across the country especially those in the rural areas for them to give off their best.
“As a company, it has always been our priority to meet the needs of their stakeholders through CSR to foster developmental change and living standards,” Mr. Nasimul added.
The Branch Manager of Swedru Business Centre of the company, Mr. Prince Nana Kwaku Gyasi added that the company organises health screening for communities in its operational area annually.
Head of Otabilkrom Health Centre, Gideon Agyare expressed appreciation to ASA Savings and Loans Limited for the gesture.
“These items have been on the list of felt needs of the health centre for a long time and this will help improve upon our services and serve over 1,400 clients of the facility”.
Free medical screening for traders at Afful Nkwanta
295 people within the Aboabo Area of ASA Savings and Loans Limited benefitted from a free medical outreach at Aful Nkwanta Market.
They were screened for ailments such as malaria, typhoid, stomach ulcer, syphilis, blood sugar, diabetes as well as the eye.
A medical team from Soteria Anglican Medical Centre were in charge of the exercise. 205 made up of men, women, children, and the aged were under general screening whiles 90 of them were for the eye screening.
An Optometrist, Dr. Samuel Afful noted that most people did not know they have eye problem but through the exercise, it was detected and timely medications were given.
He commended ASA Savings and Loans for supporting the people as most of them wait until they are not well before they visit a health centre.
Head of the medical team, Dr. Antwi Bosiako was pleased with the activities carried out considering the cost involved.
The Divisional Manager of the company, Mithu Bhushan Debnath, said the company, cares for everyone and not only its customers. The screening exercise, he said is part of ASA corporate social responsibility and it is done on wider coverage for all the communities and branches within their operational areas.
The Area Manager, Mavis Adwoa Serwaa said, ASA aims to seek the well-being of the people. Aside given them financial support, we also support health institutions with items to support effective health care delivery in the country.
Ama Ataa a market woman said, “This is my second time for this exercise and I am pleased to be here”.
Adwoa Owusu another beneficiary was excited to get first time experience with the exercise as she barely gets time to go for check-ups due to her business schedule.
Traders at Kenten Markets
In a related development, 217 people within the Kenten Business Centre of ASA Savings and Loans Ltd at Techiman also benefitted from free medical screening and eye test.
They were screened for malaria, Hepatitis B, blood pressure, eye and sugar level.
According to the Principal Medical Laboratory Technician, Mrs. Abigail Sarpomaa Akenten, nine tested positive to malaria and were given medication.
In addition, she said four tested positive to Hepatitis B. They were referred to the hospital for further treatment.
On blood pressure, she said 19 low cases and eight high cases were recorded. They were also referred to the hospital for further treatment.
Again, under blood glucose, 22 people had hyperglycaemia and six, also had hypoglucemia and were referred to seek further medical assistance.
Mrs. Akenten, advised them to seek medical attention at any health facility close by whenever they feel sick.
Bernard Ansah-Koi, Branch Manager for Kenten Business Centre of the company advised members of the community to frequently visit any nearby health facility for check-ups, as their health is their wealth.
Ghulam Ahmad Abosi, Area Manager for Techiman said, this is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility. “This has enabled our clients and community members to know their health status.” We also have plans to organise free breast screening, donation to selected health centres, scholarship for students among others before the year ends”.
