The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) issued a statement denying the involvement of its Managing Director, Abena Amoah, in a political campaign manifesto committee.
The clarification comes after a press release circulated on February 22, 2024, claimed that Ms. Amoah was named as Co-Chair of the Committee on the Economy for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The GSE emphasised that the ‘Ms. Abena Amoah’ mentioned in the press release is not their Managing Director and that she was not approached or involved in the committee in any way.
“The attention of the Ghana Stock Exchange has been drawn to a press release dated February 22, 2024, with reference number 022-DMB-2024 and signed by Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Director of Communications of ‘Bawumia For President 2024’,” the GSE said in its statement.
“We wish to state categorically that the named Ms. Abena Amoah on the list is NOT Ms. Abena Amoah, Managing Director of the Ghana Stock Exchange. Our Ms. Amoah has not been approached or had any discussion or agreement on the subject matter with the Campaign Team,” it added.
The GSE reiterated its commitment to remaining apolitical and focused on its core mandate of providing a robust platform for raising capital and investment for Ghana’s economic development.
“We remain focused on delivering on our mandate of providing a robust platform for raising capital and investment for economic prosperity to all Ghanaians and our international stakeholders,” the statement concluded.
The development is bound to reignite the conversation around misinformation leading up to the December 2024 General Elections.
