Yet Another Drone Recovered: Cross-Border Drug Smuggling Attempts Continue

In a continued effort to curb cross-border smuggling activities, a joint team of the Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police successfully recovered another drone near the Nesta village in Amritsar. This marks the second such incident in the region within a week, underscoring the persistent threat posed by unmanned aerial vehicles in facilitating illicit activities.

The China-made Quadcopter was discovered on the outskirts of Nesta village during a joint search operation conducted on November 12, 2023. Acting on specific information, the security forces launched the operation in the morning hours, leading to the drone’s recovery from a farm field adjacent to the village.

This recent incident comes hot on the heels of another recovery made by the BSF on the International Border in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district. Just days ago, on November 10, a China-made Pakistani quadcopter drone was intercepted near the border. The earlier drone, identified as a DJI Mavic 3 Classic, was found in the vicinity of Village Tindi Wala, further highlighting the use of sophisticated technology for illegal activities.

Officials involved in the investigations have expressed concern over the increasing frequency of such incidents and the advanced equipment being employed by smugglers. The recovered drones are believed to be part of a larger network facilitating cross-border drug smuggling.

The modus operandi of these smugglers involves flying the drones over the border areas to drop contraband materials, evading traditional surveillance methods. The flexibility and range of these unmanned aerial vehicles make them a preferred choice for criminal elements seeking to exploit technological advancements for illegal gains.

The authorities have intensified efforts to enhance border security and surveillance, deploying advanced technologies to counter the evolving tactics of smugglers. While the recovery of these drones is a positive step, it also underscores the need for continuous vigilance and proactive measures to stay one step ahead of those engaging in illicit activities.
