Rana Motors has launched a new truck model, Ashok Leyland Phoenix, fully assembled by engineers in the country, making it the first locally assembled truck.
The truck assembled at the Rana Motors and Metal Works Engineering Company Limited Assembly Plant, Amasaman is as a result of the partnership between Rana Motors and Ashok Leyland.
Phoenix, is a 2-ton payload pickup built on an all-new platform that is powered by a 1500 turbocharged diesel engine and is a reflection of the company’s zeal for growth and relentless commitment in responding to the needs of their customers.
The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry Michael Okyere Baafi, believes that the government’s partnership with Ashok Leyland will grow the economy in the area of industrial development and further push it to another level.
He added that the Automotive Development Policy has opened the way for the country to venture into the automobile industry and is confident that in the shortest time, the country will become the automotive development hub in the sub region.
Emphasising the significance of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to the sector, he said it gives the country a different leverage to easily enter the automotive market within the sub-region.
For the country to take full advantage of the automotive industry, he noted that the government is in the process of developing an Automotive Component Manufacturing Development Policy, to mainly attract investments from Component Manufacturers to feed into the local automotive industry whilst supplying aftermarket components across the sub-region.
Mr. Baafi also assured the Automobile Assembles Association of Ghana (AAAG) of the government’s commitment and implementing the policy to fully realise their business potential.
“I would like to assure the AAAG of the government’s commitment to fully implementing the Ghana Automotive Development Policy to enable them fully realise their business potential and unlock markets for their products”, he said.
Highlighting the uniqueness of the new truck, the Chief Operating Officer of Rana Motors, Kassem Odaymat said it has a tailor-made feature such as fuel-efficient engine, spacious interior and also addresses the diverse needs of their customers.
He assured that the truck has been carefully tested in the country and meets the highest quality benchmark just as any other imported car.
“Rest assured, the Phoenix is assembled and meticulously tested here, adhering to the highest quality control standards set by the manufacturer”, he said.
The Head, International Operations of Ashok Leyland Rajesh R. expressed his outfit’s continuous commitment in partnering with Rana Motors in shaping a future where transportation is not just a necessity, but a seamless experience.
In his speech the First Secretary and Acting High Commissioner of India, Chinpau Ngaihte focused on the tremendous impact of the truck to the country’s economy adding that it speaks volumes about the potential within Ghana.
“It showcases Ghana’s dedication of innovation, growth and self-reliance, boosting the local economy and paving way for a brighter industrial future”, he said.
The truck comes with a class-leading five year or 500,000km warranty, underscoring its quality.
