Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen’s resignation from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and his decision to run as an independent candidate are poised to have a seismic impact on the ruling party as the 2024 elections draw near.
“Under the circumstances and given the context provided, I wish to use this platform to announce that I am honourably resigning with immediate effect from the New Patriotic Party to contest for the high office of the President of the Republic of Ghana in the 2024 General Elections, as an Independent Presidential Candidate”, the former trade minister said at a press conference in Accra.
Kyerematen has underscored his dedication to addressing crucial national concerns such as economic development, job creation, and social welfare. He believes that his independent candidacy will allow him to better serve the interests of the Ghanaian people.
This decision poses a significant challenge to Ghana’s established political landscape and has the potential to reshape the country’s political order. Notably, this isn’t the first time Kyerematen has distanced himself from the NPP. In 2008, he left the party following his loss in the 2007 presidential primary but later returned amid political pressure.
