The Chirano Gold Mines has said it is their priority to invest in educational development within their catchment communities, to create a rich pool of human resources that can be relied upon for the sustainability of the mine and other services necessary for development.
The future and sustainability of the mining industry, according to the General Manager of Chirano Gold Mines – an AsanteGold company, Stephen Asante Yamoah, hinges on the availability of a well-educated workforce.
To this end, he noted that the vision of the Mine extends far beyond mining to encompass building strong, inclusive, and prosperous communities.
Mr. Asante Yamoah, who was speaking at the commissioning and handing over of a rehabilitated Municipal Office of the Ghana Education Service (GES), at Sefwi Wiawso, in the Western North region, noted the significance of the development of host communities to the Mine.
“This beautifully completed edifice is a show of how Asante Chirano, despite our current fiscal challenges, continues to partner with stakeholders to bring development to our communities, through educational development among others.
“The rehabilitation of the Ghana Education Service office block is a true testament to the strength and potential of local partnerships,” he said.
Furthermore, he disclosed that the project contractor for the project which was funded by Chirano Gold Mines, was the Chief of Nsuonsua, Nana Eluo Panyin. “The collaboration reinforces Asante Chirano’s vision to empower and involve local stakeholders for community development,” he added.
Asante Chirano, he said, believes in the position that education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today. Therefore, he stressed that education is the foundation upon which sustainable development is built.
Also, he said it is the key that unlocks doors of opportunity, empowering individuals to reach their fullest potential and contribute meaningfully to the growth and prosperity of our nation.
Consistent with this, he observed that effectively harnessing the potential of education begins with providing a conducive and modern environment for our educators and administrators to carry out their noble mission of imparting knowledge and nurturing the minds of our future leaders. The completion of this project, thus is to provide the needed conducive environment.
Moreover, he recognised that the creation of the Western North Region and the elevation of Sefwi Wiawso to the regional capital means strengthens the need to upgrade the existing infrastructure to reflect the new status.
“We are happy to say that the new look of this building and the upgrade of the facilities inside, is now befitting of the Municipal Headquarters of the Ghana Education Service,” he stated.
The General Manager of Chirano Gold Mines stressed the need to continue to work hand in hand, guided by the principles of collaboration, innovation, and inclusivity. Adding that “Together, we can achieve even greater heights and create a legacy of positive change that will endure for generations to come.”
Meanwhile, he also urged the Ghana Education Service to put in place a robust maintenance regime to ensure that this building lives on to serve generations to come.
He reckoned that as a major development partner (Asante Chirano) in the region, the future will come with many more development projects and initiatives for the development of the Western North region.
Present at the ceremony was the Paramount Chief of Sefwi Wiawso, Katakyie Kwasi Bumangama II, Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Chief Executive, Municipal Director of GES, and other heads of government agencies and other traditional authorities.
