The 1977-year group of West Africa Senior High School Old Students Association (WASSOSA) has handed over an upgraded kitchen to the school.
The renovated facility houses a corn mill and vegetable grinding machine, as well as a dual-power industrial bread dough-mixer. It was upgraded at a cost of GH₵113,000
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, Vice President for the group Erasmus Martin said: “What has brought us together once again is the fact that the 1977 year group of West Africa Secondary School Old Students Association has donated a dual-power industrial bread dough-mixer to their alma mater to assist in preserving food safety and quality at a cost of GH¢78,000 in July 2022; and also dual-power industrial corn-milling and vegetable-grinding machines at a cost of GH¢35,000.
“In addition, we sponsored the kitchen’s extension and had the structure painted and fitted with a sanitary fence. This brings total investments by the 1977 former students to upgrade the school’s kitchen to GH₵113,000 over a period of six months. We say thanks be to God.”
He called on the WASSOSA executives to take up the challenge of getting all year groups to also come onboard and support the school. He said the computer laboratory and others were all in need of a facelift.
The 1977 old students’ gesture aims to create a conductive environment for both students and staff of the school.
Headmistress of the school, Dr. Shine Agartha Ofori, commended the group for taking such a step; which she said has transformed the school’s kitchen, adding that their contribution to the school’s development will forever be remembered.
“We are all happy that the promises made by the 1977 group in response to our request have all been fulfilled. The school has suffered over the years, carrying food items like corn to be milled and sometimes delaying at the mill. We say ‘thank you’ to them for the gesture. We believe that other year groups will also be inspired by this,” she said.
She also called on other year groups to come to the aid of their alma mater.
