Ten individuals who made a significant impact in the lives of the less privileged and their communities during the fight against COVID-19 in the country have been adjudged winners in the 6th season of MTN Heroes of Change.

The winners, who supported their local communities as part of efforts to help the country stay afloat during the worst phase of the pandemic, were rewarded for their impact in the three categories of Health, Education and Economic Empowerment.

Founder of Nneka Youth Foundation, Cecilia Fiaka; Henry Assumeng Ankrah; Patience Munayatu Agana; and Rhoda Kadoa Wedam emerged winners of the economic empowerment category.

The health category saw four change-makers emerging winners. They included Prof. Kofi Bobi Barimah; founder of Sound Mind Rehab Daycare, Gloria Sarkodie Addo; Prof. William Kwabena Ampofo; and founder of Galaxy Foundation, David Hagan.

2021 Journalist of the Year Portia Solomon Gabor of Media General, and Ebeyeyie Foundation led by Isaac Ofori came top as winners of the Education category.

The winners took home a certificate, a citation and a cash prize of GHȼ20,000 each to augment their operations.

These 10 individuals played a role during the fight against the pandemic by supporting the less privileged in rural communities through educating them, providing them with PPEs and food; equipping young girls (especially Kayayo) who lost their jobs with vocational skills; supporting psychiatric patients who were left stranded; organising major surgeries for life-threatening illnesses; sensitising persons with hearing disabilities on COVID-19; and some even finding a cure for the virus.

Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Selorm Adadevoh, commended the winners for their tireless efforts and commitment to making lives a lot brighter – saying that if all play their parts, the motherland’s hopes will become less of a dream and more of reality.

“Our aim is to lead digital solutions for Africa’s progress, and we believe that making an impact in our communities begins with one person’s decision to make a difference in whatever situation we find ourselves. We are also sensitive to the things around us. We care about Climate Change, Female empowerment and all the things we must to do create a fair balance in our society,” he added.

The sixth edition of Heroes of Change was dubbed the ‘Special 25th Anniversary Edition’.
