The Western Regional Co-ordinating Council has instituted an annual Western Regional Oil and Gas Excellence Awards Scheme which will be organised in commemoration of First Oil with effect from this year.
A Note issued under the hand of the Western Regional Minister, Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, observed that “the discovery of oil in commercial quantities off Cape Three Points in the Western Region on 15th December, 2007, is expected to serve as a major catalyst for the economic development, not only of the Western Region but of Ghana as a whole”.
The Note indicated that the Western Regional Oil and Gas Excellence Awards Scheme will be implemented under the auspices of the Western Regional Co-ordinating Council by Top Brass Ghana, headed by Mr. Isaac Dakwa, a retired Director of the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
According to Mr. Isaac Dakwa, Director of Top Brass Ghana, the objective of the Awards Scheme is to acknowledge the vital contribution of the Oil and Gas fraternity to the economic development of the Western Region and indeed of Ghana as a whole, and to honour deserving Oil and Gas industry players.
Mr. Dakwa also stated that the Western Regional Oil and Gas Excellence Awards Scheme will be organised under the poignant theme: “Ghana: Towards an Oil-led Economic Development”.
The first Western Regional Oil and Gas Awards Ceremony has been scheduled to take place at the elegant Akroma Plaza Hotel, on Thursday 15th December, 2022 to commemorate the 15th Anniversary of First Oil (15th December, 2007).
Top Brass Ghana has the enviable reputation of being responsible for the organisation of similar economic development-oriented Excellence Awards. For example, when Ghana celebrated the 50th Anniversary of its Independence in 2007, Top Brass Ghana was mandated by the Ghana @ 50 Anniversary National Planning Committee to organise the Golden Jubilee Business and Financial Services Excellence Awards in commemoration of this important milestone in the nation’s history.
Again when Ghana marked the 60th Anniversary of Independence in 2017, Top Brass Ghana was authorised by the Ghana 60 Years On National Anniversary Planning Committee to organise the Diamond Jubilee Business Leaders Excellence Awards to honour the nation’s leading captains of business and finance.
The Golden Jubilee Awards project was subsequently re-designated as the Ghana Premier Business and Finance Excellence Awards Scheme which has been organised since 2008, while the Diamond Jubilee Awards initiative was re-named the Ghana Business Leaders Excellence Awards and has been organised as such since 2018.
