The British Council in Ghana has held the 10th annual Partner Schools Global Network Awards night to recognise the excellence dedication and commitment of students, teachers, parents and school leaders in the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) O and A levels.
The event which was held with the support of Cambridge Assessment International Education saw Solange Antwi-Donkor from the Merton International Primary/High School emerging as the outstanding student in the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), while Nathan Adu-Tutu Amankwah from the Ghana Christian International High School was adjudged the best O Level student.
Also, Eric Owuraku Asare of the Alpha Beta Christian College won the best GCE AS & A Level student.
For the schools, Delhi Private School International came top as the best IGCSE school, Ghana Christian International High School was the best GCE O level school and the best GCE AS & A level school award went to Alpha Beta Christian College.
This year’s award is based on excellent achievement in the 2021 academic year. A total of 22 students from seven British Council Partner Schools also received awards in various categories.
In an address at the awards ceremony in Accra, British Council Country Director of Ghana & Cameroon, Chikodi Onyemerela noted that the awards scheme was an important event that his outfit organises to celebrate high achievers, teachers, school leaders and parents in the Cambridge International Examination series.
“While this award is to acknowledge the best of the best in this year’s exams series, we recognise the efforts of all students who have put up their best in this year’s Cambridge Exam even though they are not of the award recipients,” he said.
He added that given the job market and the nature of this current era, the International Curriculum has the sonorous advantage of providing global access and mobility to students and will enable them to compete on the international stage as global citizens and that the British Council is delighted to support the platform to achieve this.
“We are very proud of our longstanding partnership with Cambridge International as this partnership has enabled us to support schools to offer internationally recognised qualifications all over the world and we are very pleased to have them here with us tonight to support these awards. We currently have 76+ British Council Partner Schools associated with us in Ghana and this year we have had over 8500 exams for the Cambridge examination series,” Mr. Chikodi Onyemerela added.
For her part, Senior West African Manager from the Cambridge Assessment International Education Efua Asiedu congratulated the awardees reiterating their programmes and qualification will help learners to reach their potential and instil a lifelong love of learning and passion for discovery.

Business Development Manager and Country Lead for Ghana, Senegal and Sierra Leone, Sean Harris is confident the Awards will motivate other students to emulate and learn to perform better.
