Nkonya Wurupong Development Association has built a 16-seat public toilet worth GH¢350,000 for the Wurupong community in the Oti Region.
The initiative is to address concerns of hygiene and sanitation in the community.
Speaking at the commissioning, the Oti Regional Minister, Joshua M. Makubu, commended the Association and everyone else who put in an effort to build the facility.
He pledged to contribute to the project with items including 3,000 water storage tanks and six packs of ceiling fans.
He assured the residents of his support in other areas of development in the community.
Water and Environmental Management Specialist, Philip Dwamena Boateng, urged residents to take care the facility.
“Embrace the development in all its facets and take good care of it for more meaningful projects and an all-inclusive team to champion needs of the community,” he said.
For his part, the Omanhene of Nkonya Wurupong Traditional Area, Nanai Kwadwo Asiakwa II, appealed to the Oti Regional Minister and Regional Coordinating Council to assist the Wurupong Community in the areas of education and roads, particularly from the township to the Lakeside (Nsueam).
Nanai Asiakwa II further commended the leadership of Nkonya Wurupong Development Association for a job well executed.
“Opinion Leaders within the community also gave handsomely to the cause of building projects. Corporate institutions like the Volta River Authority (VRA) and Ghana EximBank (GEXIM) also supported the Community,” the Association noted.
