The Open Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology (OFAB) has announced the opening of entries for its Ghana Media Awards to reward journalists for their immense contribution to the growth of agricultural biotechnology in Ghana.
THE receipt of entries which started on Monday, June 13, 2022, will close on August 12. 2022.
Addressing journalists at a short event to launch the 2022 edition of the awards scheme, Dr Richard Ampadu-Ameyaw, a Senior Research Scientist at the Science and Technology Policy Research Institute (STEPRI) of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), the scheme aims to recognise media practitioners for their indescribable contribution in educating farmers and the Ghanaian populace on the need to adopt technological innovations in agriculture.
Categories
The awards scheme is in three categories for journalists reporting on Agricultural Biotechnology for publications done from June 1 2021 to June 1 2022—Print and Online (Newspapers, Magazine & Online etc.), Radio and Television.
Applicants may therefore submit a maximum of THREE entries per category and may enter for MORE THAN ONE category.
Key Dates for OFAB Media Awards 2022
- Submission of Entries from Journalists – 13th June to 30th July 2022
- Publication done from the period 1st June 2021 to 13th July 2022 are eligible for entry
Applicants MUST include the following with the publication to be submitted:
I.A brief synopsis (about 150 words) of the stories submitted (Max 3 for each category)
II.About 150-word professional biography
III.A brief 200-word piece explaining the motivation for each story submitted
IV.Digital passport size photo and
V.A copy of national ID/Passport.
- Evidence of Media Accreditation/Membership of a National Media Association.
About the OFAB Media Awards (OMAs)
The OFAB Media Awards were initiated to; i) promote excellence in science journalism and appreciate the contribution of journalists in promoting sustainable agricultural technologies particularly agricultural biotechnology and ii) reward the critical roles played by journalists in promoting constructive dialogue on modern biotechnology through responsible, professional, ethical, and effective reporting. The culmination of the Award is the OFAB Africa Media Awards contest that brings together OFAB country-level finalists from which the overall winners are selected. The call will culminate in celebrating and awarding three winning journalists in the categories of Television, Radio Print & Online.
