A select number of Ghana-based companies which are engaged in transacting business with their counterparts in other African nations will be honoured at the 16th Ghana-Africa Business Awards ceremony that has been scheduled to take place in Accra on Friday 27th May 2022.

The Ghana-Africa Business Awards Scheme was instituted in 2004 under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration by Top Brass Ghana, to commemorate Africa Day (25th May) and honour enterprises which make noteworthy contributions to Ghana’s development through the promotion of trade, investment and other economic relations between Ghana and sister African countries.

According to Mr. Isaac Dakwa, Director of Top Brass Ghana, establishing the Awards Scheme under the theme ‘Accelerating Ghana’s Economic Development Through Increased Intra-African Trade and Investment’, was informed by the realisation – as captured in the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) Initiative – that Africa can accelerate its own development through increased economic exchanges among African countries themselves.

He observed that with the recent creation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) whose secretariat is located in Accra, the Ghana-Africa Business Awards assume a special significance and relevance.

This year’s 16th Ghana-Africa Business Awards ceremony marks the Awards’ first edition since the AfCFTA Agreement came into force.

As is the tradition, the Guest of Honour will be Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration; while the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Foreign Affairs, Bryan Acheampong, will preside over the Awards ceremony.

Dean of the African Diplomatic Corps, Zagré Pingrenoma who is the Ambassador of Burkina Faso, and Wamkele Mene, Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area, will also be in attendance.
