The shortage of premix fuel in communities within the South Dayi constituency in the Volta Region, has resulted in untold economic hardship for the people of the area, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, Member of Parliament for the area, has revealed.
According to him, fishermen are unable to go about their daily business activities due to the shortage of the fuel.
Other residents are also unable to move within the towns, especially in Tongor-Dzemeni for various purposes due to the unavailability of the fuel to power the canoes.
Mr Dafeamekpor said on Accra100.5FM that he has held a meeting with the District Chief Executive of the area to intervene in solving the issues that have resulted in the shortage of the fuel.
The DCE, he said, had assured the fisherfolk that all those bottlenecks that led to the shortage would be dealt with immediately to bring relief to the people.
“In the communities, almost everywhere we go we have to cross a river, and, so, if there is no fuel to power the canoes just imagine what will happen.
“Already, the situation is creating serious economic hardship for the people, they cannot sell and buy, businesses are collapsing,” he said.
He added: “Patients are unable to go to pharmacies to purchase drugs to treat their condition, and, so, the shortage has resulted in serious economic hardship for the people.”
Meanwhile, Simon Tukata, Town Development Committee Chairman in Dzemeni said the issues that resulted in the fuel shortage have been dealt with.
“As I am speaking with you now, we have the premix fuel,” he added.
