The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has suspended from office, the Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Pius Enam Hadzide, and the acting Director General of the National Sports Authority, Robert Sarfo Mensah, a statement signed by the Director of Communication at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin on Thursday, has stated.
The decision, according to the release, comes following preliminary investigations conducted into the circumstances that led to the arrest of some sixty (60) Ghanaians, who had allegedly attempted to enter Australia by false pretences, in the on-going 21st Commonwealth Games.
“The President of the Ghana Olympics Committee, Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah; the Board Chairman of the National Sports Authority, Kwadwo Baah Agyemang; and the Chief-de-Maison for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Mr. Mohammed Sahnoon, have also been recalled from the Games to assist in investigations,” the statement further said.
Last week, news broke about the arrest and subsequent repatriation of some fifty persons who claimed to be journalists and were in Australia to cover the Commonwealth games.
According to reports, these persons bore false identities and failed to provide concrete evidence that indicated that they were indeed journalists, although they had been issued accreditation.
