The newly enstooled Chief (Mantse) of Osu traditional area, Nii Nortey Owuo IV, has called for partnerships with business entities within its catchment area to foster development.
This is in line with his focus to help build a new Osu devoid of strife and to help its youth with the needed skills for gainful employment. “We want to partner all sorts of businesses to create jobs where there are opportunities, so that we can be of benefit to them and to our people,” he said.
He made this remark when management of Ascentia Energy, an Oil Marketing Company (OMC), and Total Logistics paid a courtesy call on him at his palace.
The Osu Mantse indicated that: “We have teeming youth out there who have no jobs and prospects. These youth have no skills to do anything. I am looking to you and the entire business community to come and join us to find ways in training them, because when they get skills they become beneficial to the labour force”.
He explained further that the past years have been of strife for the people of Osu; and this does not bring development but breeds retrogression and stagnancy which yield no good results.
Therefore, once the people of Osu have turned over a new leaf, it is time to move forward by providing jobs for the populace – hence the need to work with businesses within the enclave. “It is essential that we work with people who are working on our land. They are making money here, they are bringing benefits to our community – and it is important that we join with them in partnerships,” he said.
Nii Nortey Owuo IV further indicated that another area that needs development is their education. He noted that the mode of education has changed to science and technology, and there’s a need for all to support them catch up with current trends.
“Education is another big issue; there are many schools in Osu Township that are lacking basic amenities which add value to the education system. Education has changed, technology plays a pivotal role; science and technology is the way to the future and I want my people to take advantage of them. I don’t want to be left behind in the race toward progress, so I intend to partner with you and everyone else who is well-meaning to Osu – to work well and make sure my people have a chance of a better tomorrow,” he said.
Managing Director for Ascentia Energy, Kofi Ankamah, for his part told journalists that the visit to the Osu Mantse was to congratulate him and also outdoor the company – which has been in existence for the past two years – to Nii Nortey Owuo IV.
“We are a company that has been in operation for the past two years. As he has been given this opportunity, we see it fit to come and pay respect. The essence of this is to also see the opportunities which lie ahead for both us and Osu. I think it is very paramount that we come together and help the community as he has come in; we should make sure we do the right thing to assist,” he said.
