The Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, with the support of Africa Foundation of the United States of America is set to construct a US$400,000 ultra-modern ICT facility to the Ghana Senior High School, Tamale, his alma mater.

The facility is to equip students of the school with the requisite technological knowledge and skills to help them remain relevant in the future and also prepare them for the ever-changing job market.

Dr. Awal announced this in his speech to climax the activities marking the 60th anniversary of Ghana Senior High School. According to him, works on the ICT centre will commence next year.

Dr. Awal, who represented the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawunia, as the special guest of honour, also announced a scholarship packaged for the overall best student of the school.

“In addition to the provision of the ICT Centre, I will provide a comprehensive scholarship package to the overall best student of the school over the next 10 years”, he said.

He charged the students to emulate the discipline and hard work that former students of the school have exhibited.

The minister was honoured by the school management for his enormous contribution towards the development of the school’s infrastructure.

Dr. Awal’s contributions include the rehabilitation of the school’s water system, rehabilitation of the administration block, and the construction of the main gate.

The Headmistress of Ghanasco, Hajia Amina Musah, expressed gratitude to government and other old students for their tremendous contribution to the school to help enhance quality education.

According to her, despite the commitment of management to utilize the few resources available to help build the future of the younger generation, there is the need for the alumni and government to assist in improving the infrastructure of the school.

She acknowledged that the school, in recent times, had enjoyed a lot of support from government.
