Fifteen beneficiaries of the MTN Bright Scholarship scheme have graduated from the University for Development Studies (UDS).
The beneficiaries, who pursued programmes in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, agricultural technology, amongst others, were part of a pool of 300 persons who were supported under the scheme.
They include Iddrisu Jimma Fidaus, Peter Okutu, Moro Amina, Kasanga Stephen, Bakanga Huudi, Eduful Acheampomaa Abigail, and Lakpyiere Alice Bagyieryele.
The rest are Priscilla Osei Tutu, Abarike Emmanuella Awinpang, Fuseini John Mathias, Samuel Maxwell Ackom, Issahaku Malia Latif, Gomado Elikplim Esther ,Usman Hajarah and Aloko Manuela Nkanise.
Speaking to the media after the 22nd congregation ceremony, the Education Portfolio Advisor in charge of the scholarships at the MTN Foundation, George Kyei Frimpong, commended the graduates for making the company proud and ensuring value for money.
“Over the past decade, the MTN Foundation has been awarded various scholarships to thousands of well-deserving persons across the country. We will continue to support them pursue various courses at different levels of education,” he said.
“We are making sure that our investment gets to the right places and the right people by taking care of the needy and giving them accommodation, tuition, and stipends. We wish them well and pray that they will excel in everywhere they find themselves to contribute their quota to the development of the nation,” he added.
He advised the beneficiaries to utilise the knowledge acquired to make the company proud, as it will serve as a source of encouragement for management to extend support for more students across the country.
Amina Moro, a graduate of Agricultural Technology, commended MTN for their support, saying the intervention was able to help her achieve her dream.
According to her, she was on the verge of dropping out of school after the death of her mother in her second year but the intervention of the MTN scheme proved timely.
“I wanted to quit my studies until someone introduced me to the scholarship scheme and I applied and was invited for an interview. After the interview, I was shortlisted to access the funds to further my education,” she said.
MTN Bright Scholarship was set up to award various sponsorship programmes to well-deserving students across Ghana to pursue various courses at different levels of education in Ghana through the Scholarship scheme
The Scholarship is designed for year one undergraduate students and continuing education students at any public higher institution in Ghana and is only available to Ghanaians.
The scholarship covers the cost of tuition, accommodation, and a stipend for books and other relevant reading materials.
