The Chirano Gold Mines Limited (CGML) has backed one of the newly promoted teams into the Ghana Premier League (GPL), Bibiani Gold Stars Soccer Club, to succeed in their pursuit while donating a 33-seater capacity bus to the team.
The Vice President and General Manager of CGML, Terence Watungwa, said the company recognizes that a successful campaign in the Premiership will bring development and recognition to the Western North Region, one of the newest in the country.
He said CGML believes that “the team have the skill needed to stay in the premier league. But, to successfully compete at this high level, the football club requires support and assistance in many ways.”
It is against this background that “Chirano Gold Mines is very glad to support the club with this bus donation.”
The gesture is expected to provide the team with a safe and comfortable means of transportation as they compete in the GPL.
Also, such facility, he noted, further demonstrates to other competing football clubs that Bibiani Gold Stars is in the GPL to compete for pride and the ultimate prize.
“This donation reinforces our commitment to being an Outstanding Corporate Citizen and a strategic partner in the socio-economic development of the Western North Region of Ghana,” Mr. Watungwa stated.
With the donation of this bus, he said “Chirano Gold Mines is demonstrating that we are not only building schools and clinics, providing educational support to students in need, and providing infrastructural amenities to catchment communities, but we are also interested in the socio-economic development and happiness and cohesiveness of the people of the region.”
It is believed that a successful football team will promote local development and attract businesses to the region, and bring our communities together.
While congratulating the team for qualifying, he noted that “this is the only region out of the new six where a club has successfully stepped up into Ghana’s Premier League and we are very excited to follow your success in this journey.”
Mr. Watungwa recognized the Club has worked cohesively towards their goal, from the lower rungs to the first division and now to have qualified for the Premiership.
He added that many clubs never reach the pinnacle of association football, but Bibiani Gold Stars has succeeded. “The Bibiani Gold Stars have indeed glorified their motto, “Gye Nyame,” he stated.
As the General Manager of CGML said they will be proud to see the players of the Bibiani Gold Stars FC disembark from this well-equipped bus onto the football pitch during match days to the cheers and admiration of supporters, he also urged all the people of Bibiani and the Western North Region to rally solidly behind the team as they strive for greatness.
The Chief Executive of Bibiani Gold Stars SC, Mr. Kwesi Adu, in his remarks at the ceremony to take delivery of the bus, acknowledge the relief that the facility has brought to the team.
He was hopeful the exploits of the team, who hope to sustain their stay in the premiership for a long period, would further unite and bring economic prosperity to the new region.
Mr. Adu expressed his appreciation to CGML for the timely gesture and further called for more support to enable the team to realise their vision, to remain and excel in the top national football league competition.
